The Epson EcoTank ET-M1170 is a compact printer designed to receive documents from your PC or mobile device. Its simple control panel reflects this. The printer measures 5.9 x 14.8 x 13.7 inches (HWD) and weighs 9.5 pounds, with only a small desk space. If you need to monitor consumables, generate usage reports, and so on, you can do everything from the built-in Web site or embedded Web server. The paper handling on the printer consists of a 250-page main tray on the front and a 1-page hand tray on the back. Epson has set this series print speed at 20 pages per minute (ppm), a typical entry-level speed for monochrome business printers. When I tested it from a standard Intel Core i5 test bench PC running Windows 10 Professional, the printer printed a 12-page Microsoft Word text document at 21.3 ppm, just above Epson’s rating. In addition, the average home output speed of the Epson EcoTank ET-M1170 is 9 seconds. The first-page output is the time it takes to click or touch Print until the first page reaches the output tray. The maximum monthly space ratio for the printer is 20,000 pages, and the recommended monthly print volume is 1,500 pages. The connectivity is standard for commercial printers. These interfaces include Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / ns, Ethernet up to 1000Mbps, USB 2.0 connectivity to a single PC, and Wi-Fi Direct. The last is the point-to-point network protocol, which allows you to connect mobile devices to printers without connecting them to printers or to local area networks (LANs) or intermediate routers. Other mobile connectivity options include Epson iPrint (iOS and Android), Epson Remote Print, Apple AirPrint, and Google Cloud Print. There are no ports for printing from the USB thumb drive. In most cases, however, the Epson EcoTank ET-M1170 connectivity option should provide enough options for everyone in your small or home office.
