The Epson Expression Premium XP-7100 is an introductory to medium-sized all-in-one inkjet printer designed for use in the home or home office. It prints particularly well, especially for photos, and is equipped with an automatic two-sided printing automatic document feeder (ADF) for printing, copying, and scanning of two-sided documents without user intervention. These benefits and other notable features elevate the printer as an editing choice. At 8.1 x 23.5 x 17.2 inches (HWD), this “small one” weighs 21.5 pounds. The printer comes with a 30-page single-pass ADF for double-sided copying and scanning without having to manually flip the original. It’s more of an office-oriented AIO than a consumer-centric model like the printer, which also comes with an ADF but can only hold 20 pages and doesn’t automatically print on both sides. The Epson Expression Premium XP-7100 has five types of ink. In addition to the four CMYK cartridges, you get Photo Black ink that enhances black in images (and some text) and makes them darker and deeper, especially on coated premium photo paper. As for paper handling, the printer can hold up to 120 sheets of paper, divided into 100 main cartons, and 20 of which are photo paper inserts. The paper distribution is smaller than many of the competing models here, but this is not surprising for printers in this price range. Epson no longer publishes capacity specifications for its consumer printers, but machines that typically have this paper capacity and speed class typically have a maximum time-to-hour ratio of 1,000 to 2,000 pages, with a much smaller recommended monthly print volume of only a few hundred pages. The Epson Expression Premium XP-7100 has a more common feature for this type of high-end machine: the ability to print labels on pre-surface CDs and DVDs by sliding into a small box directly above the output tray. Software for designing labels and jewelry box inserts is also available in the package. Configuration and roaming features, such as copying, printing, and scanning from the cloud to the cloud, can be handled with a comfortable large 4.3-inch touchscreen that includes the entire control panel. No matter what type of computing device you use, you should find a variety of options to connect to the Epson Expression Premium XP-7100 printer, starting with basic wireless (Wi-Fi) and wired (Ethernet) network interfaces, and via USB 2.0. You can also establish a router-free, router-free network connection with Wi-Fi Direct, as well as a collection of other useful mobility options. The Epson Connect suite includes Epson email printing, Epson remote printing, Epson scan-to-cloud, Epson iPrint applications, Epson Print and Scan applications, and Creative Print applications. Third-party mobile solutions include Apple AirPrint, Fire OS, Google Cloud Print, and Mopria. Finally, you can always print or scan from a USB thumb drive or SD card to a USB thumb drive or SD card through the slot in front of the lower-left corner of the chassis. In addition to the mobile applications listed in the previous paragraph, the Epson Expression Premium XP-7100 package includes Epson Easy Photo Scan, Epson Print CD (labels for designing and printing CDs/DVDs and jewelry box inserts), Epson Scan for scanning text and converting to available formats, and PDF versions of user guides.
